Science and the gospel agree that the seven signs of the apocalypse are occurring as have been revealed in scripture.  Where they diverge is whether or not the disasters, plagues and catastrophes are occurring based on a master plan or through natural circumstances of life and physics.

Scientists try to understand earthquakes, plagues and natural disasters, and attempt to predict and explain them; however scientific explanations are not necessary.  If God decides one will occur, it will happen, and there will be a crescendo of disasters as Bible prophecy states.

Apocalypse means, “A veil lifted”, and God through His grace has provided us the signs that the end of the world is coming so we can be prepared to meet Him and to be patient until that time.  God has written on a scroll sealed with 7 seals all that is to take place.  With the breaking of each seal is a new disaster.

As God releases his fury in the end times through a massive global earthquake like nothing before, simultaneous around the world, mountains, islands and cities are going to be levelled.   A supernatural event this destructive would have to be an act of God.

God is trying to shake the human race awake to realize their need for Him else we will feel the wrath of God’s judgement.  The unprecedented size and destruction of events will destroy life on the planet.  It is a matter of when, not if.

There are currently super-volcanoes scattered across the globe that can emit 100 cubic kilometres or more of hot gasses and ash.  Scientists know of at least 8 in existence and are hard to find as they are not in the form of a mountain.  Several are in the USA, one is in Yellowstone.  Science and the scripture agree our prospects will be bleak and there is little we can do in preparation for the consequences.

Another link to the impending apocalypse is global warming.  The escalation of heat will scorch mankind causing 50% of the earth’s population to die.  Rise in sea level due to melting glaciers, intensified hurricanes, drought, strife, conflict, increased terrorism are all part of the chain reaction.

God has given angels power to impose His wrath on the earth and its people when the time is right.  The last days will be filled with wars, rumours of wars, plagues, disasters, earthquakes, water turning to blood so it is not life preserving, but life taking.  These are things that have already happened and continue to happen.

Occurrences of catastrophes that are currently taking place are revealed in scripture prophecies and described in the Book of Revelation.  God has disclosed to us what will transpire in order for the end of the world as we know it to take place.

The key to decoding the end times is found in the Book of Revelation as documented by God’s servant John, and was also prophesized in the Book of Daniel.  The mystery of God will be accomplished in the days when the seventh angel is about to sound his trumpet.

According to Bible prophesy, once the angel’s trumpet has sounded, flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder, an earthquake and a great hailstorm takes place.  This allows us to identify the end times through the seven signs and know that God is in control of all things, and as written, survivors will be terrified and will give glory to the God of heaven.

Since Christ’s death and resurrection, there have been false prophets and imposters posing as Christ. The anti-Christ will come to persuade people to worship him instead of God our father and unless we arm ourselves with His gospel word, we can be led astray.

Global pandemics, Tsunamis, earthquakes like never seen before, food shortages, water turning to blood killing the sea creatures and making it undrinkable, wars and rumours of wars are all prophesized in the bible as being the roles for the four horsemen of the apocalypse.  We have already seen these things take place.  Global war will be the final battle between good and evil – Armageddon.

Scientists identify the arctic ice caps melting drastically.  We have seen masses of dead sea creatures on beaches and the water looking like blood due to Red Tide algae creates a potent toxin.

The darkening of the sun and the moon turning into blood are signs of the great tribulation in the last days.  This is nothing created by man, but God decides to turn the light out. Prophecies about 2012 as the year that the world will end have spread out in the past and present times. In ancient civilizations, the Mayans have predicted 2012 as the end of the earth’s current cycle, and such that the world will go through astounding change. Modern day movies and documentaries have been putting up front doomsday prophecies such as 2012 Apocalypse (2009) and Nostradamus 2012 (2008). All have depicted possible events that could happen which may be an uproar of different natural elements causing the destruction of so many lives – as 2012 may be the end of the world.

One of the theories that these various sources have stated is that there will be a shift in the magnetic poles of the earth by the near end of the year 2012– caused by the destruction of natural resources (mining). This can trigger a solar flare – which is likened to the earth experiencing a surge of billions of atomic bombs being thrown at once.

Another popular notion that brought hype to 2012 as the end of the world is the Web Bot Project – which is a series of automated bots that search for internet specific keywords, patterns and web chatter that give clues to upcoming worldwide major events. George Ure, one of the creators of the said project has claimed that the study has predicted the Sept 11 attacks in New York City and other natural disasters that have devastated millions of people. He has also concluded that the project has predicted the year 2012 as the ultimate world’s doomsday.

Various media sources have expressed different views regarding the apocalyptic 2012. Movies and documentaries based upon studies made have shown possibilities such as massive solar storms, shifting of magnetic poles, raging earthquakes, and deathly volcanic eruptions which are due to happen all at once on 2012. These phenomena have been supported by how the ancient Mayan civilization has predicted that 2012 is the end of the earth’s cycle. Environmentalists have pointed out that the end is near due to man’s destruction of nature. Scientists have studies regarding possible comet collisions and the alignment of a black hole in the universe due on 2012.

New Age Theories

New Agers support the evidence given by the Mayan Long Count Calendar regarding the end of the earth’s cycle as to a worldwide consciousness shift. The specific date of December 21, 2012 is a time wherein the earth and the sun will have a certain alignment in space which is predicted to cause a great change for the planet. Semir Osmanagic, in his book the World of Maya, proposes that “when the cosmic energy is allowed to flow throughout our tiny planet, we will be raised to higher level by vibrations.” So in this New Age theory, the year 2012 is not a catastrophic and deathly event for all of us, but a change into a new era for mankind.
